As many of you know, DevDigital has an office in Baroda, India and today marks India’s biggest holiday of the year—Diwali, or Deepavali. The festival’s name is derived from the Indian meanings of avali (a row) and deepa (clay lamps),that the locals place outside of their homes to represent the internal light that guards them from “spiritual darkness.”  The significance of the Hindu holiday is the celebration of light of over darkness, wisdom over ignorance, kindness over destruction, and faith over anguish.

In Baroda, Diwali is literally known as the “Festival of Lights,” and is observed in honor of Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. It is an enormous four-day celebration, that transforms India into a gorgeous, illuminated paradise, with every city and town, home and building glowing with lamps and lights. While the main holiday occurs on one night, the celebrations typically take place over five days, and include prayers, feasting, desserts, exchanging of gifts, and fireworks.
